About the Workshops

The workshop aims to empower champions for a climate-resilient Tamil Nadu by creating awareness and engaging with various communities.

Builders, real estate developers, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), educators, students, and citizen groups are invited to participate.

Discussions will focus on energy efficiency improvements and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in building infrastructure.

While contributing to climate change, the sector has high potential for reducing GHG emissions through energy-efficient buildings and habitats.

They not only reduce GHG emissions but also improve resilience, reduce vulnerability, and  promote sustainable technologies and practices.

Stay tuned as we will update the next upcoming workshop on our website. Write to us on the email id provided and we will get in touch with you.

How many lumens per square foot do I need?

In the first step of your calculations, you need to choose the type of area and activity that you want to illuminate.

For citizens

You can demand green buildings, mobilize your community, and make environmentally conscious choices to support the objectives of the Tamil Nadu Climate Change Mission.

You can use energy-efficient appliances, install solar hot water systems, and track your usage with    a smart meter to reduce electricity consumption.

Look for BEE 3-STAR rated appliances, use LED lights, energy-efficient ceiling fans, and smart switches to reduce energy consumption when purchasing appliances.

Session 1: Introduction – Human induced climate change and its Impacts, GHG emissions from the building sector and household energy consumption

Session 2: How should I make my home energy efficient | Buying Choices – Energy use of appliances and green rated / energy efficient appliances

Session 3: How should I make my home energy efficient | Lifestyle Choices – comparing  energy intensive life styles and the green way of living

Session 4: How should I make my home energy efficient | Build or Rent Choices – Aspects which are crucial while buying a new home or renting a new home.

Green homes help with climate adaptation and resilience by naturally keeping homes comfortable,           reducing energy and water use, and using eco-friendly materials to mitigate and adapt to climate change.

You can segregate waste, donate old clothes, compost, grow herbs, and use energy-efficient fixtures to make your home more sustainable.

You can switch off car engines when idling, carpool, use public transportation, and charge electric vehicles during off-peak hours to save transportation fuel.

Carbon Footprint of Building Materials

All buildings and facilities have carbon emissions from GHG from construction materials and daily operations. Whether it is an existing or a new/ residential or commercial building, a building’s carbon footprint is measured usually by the square footage and other factors.

For Builders

The workshop aims to empower champions for a climate-resilient Tamil Nadu by creating awareness and engaging with various communities.

Builders can contribute by implementing green building design principles and energy efficient construction practices.

Strategies include locating near existing infrastructure, using loadbearing construction, and  installing solar photovoltaic systems.

Builders can contribute by designing climate responsive buildings with low embodied energy and low greenhouse gas emissions.

Session 1  Introduction – human induced climate change and its Impacts, GHG emissions from the building sector and household energy consumption

Session 2:  How to build green? – Core principles of a green building, through strategies that were broken down into simple steps (3 levels).

Session 3: Creating a Green Customer Portfolio – Branding and marketing aspects

Session 4:  What are the challenges to build green?- An interactive session was conducted to understand the challenges faced by the participants.
